Charles Linwood Williams is a Rocky Mount native who led his Rocky Mount High School team to the 4A State Championship in 1978. He played three years for the University of Maryland leading the ACC in rebounds. He was selected to play on the 1980 Olympic team although the US did not participate in the 1980 Olympics. A third choice draft pick, Mr. Williams played professional basketball for 17 years with the New Jersey Nets, Portland Trailblazers, and the New York Knicks. During that time he played in three All-Star games. He retired in 1999 after scoring 16,000 points in his career. Mr. Williams also served as President of the NBA Players’ Association.
