Harold Denton

Harold Ray Denton, nuclear physicist, was former Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. Following the Three Mile Island Incident, he was President Carter’s personal on-site representative at the nuclear facility. He is the recipient of the Presidential Distinguished Executive Award from Presidents Carter and Reagan. Born in Rocky Mount, Nash County, Mr. Denton attended Battle Elementary School and was in the first class to graduate from the “new” Senior High School in 1954. He earned his B.S. Degree in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State College and did graduate work at the University of Maryland. He is a frequent lecturer at engineering schools on nuclear safety issues.
