Ruth Cherry

A graduate of West Edgecombe High School, Ruth Cherry has spent much of her life serving the citizens of Edgecombe County. She was the first woman to hold the office of Edgecombe County Commissioner. She has served as State President of Farm Bureau Women and State President of Extension Homemakers Association. Mrs. Cherry was a founding member and President of West Edgecombe Ruritanettes, Hospice Foundation of Edgecombe County, Edgecombe County Council on Aging, Volunteers Offering Independent Care for the Elderly, the Ruritan Club, and the Edgecombe Martin Electric Membership Corporation and has been active with 4-H and many other community service organizations.
