William “Billy” Harrison
William “Billy” Harrison was born in Halifax County. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1935, he moved to Rocky Mount to work at Peoples Bank. He eventually became involved in several businesses in the area including Royster Fertilizer, W.C. Reid Music Co., real-estate and other enterprises. He served as mayor of Rocky Mount, helped establish the Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport and was one of the founders of Wesleyan College. Harrison also helped develop several areas of Rocky Mount and was very active in the Chamber of Commerce. Harrison died in 2005.
